Ensemble Florilège

Ensemble Florilège is a new Boston-based period instrument ensemble that includes some of the city's best early music practitioners who are members of ensembles such as the Handel and Haydn Society and Emmanuel Music. With founder and harpsichordist Michael Sponseller, Ensemble Florilège has begun to passionately explore some lesser heard works of the 17th & 18th centuries. Past performances include Charpentier’s pastoral opera Les Arts Florissants and J.S. Bach’s Concertos for two, three and four harpsichords.

Michael Sponseller
Founder Michael Sponseller is a harpsichordist and conductor of note who has been heard throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. He was hailed by The Wall Street Journal for leading the first North American performance of Pancrace Royer's 1743 opera Le Pouvoir de l'Amour "…with stylish fervor and swing," while the San Francisco Classical Voice proclaimed, "His ferocious technique always shines in virtuoso music… he polishes off mountainous heaps of passagework without breaking a sweat."
